Dance of the Dead was just named best film of 2008 by the influential Horror Film website BoodyDisgusting.com! (They also named it one of the best zombie comedies of all time).

The film is described as a "John Hughes zombie flick" and the soundtrack (now available on iTunes) reflects this aesthetic. An equal mix of songs and score, the Soundtrack induces flashbacks of summer break fun. From Andrew W.K.'s anthemic "You Will Remember Tonight" to 2 brilliant covers of Pat Benatar's "Shadows of the Night" by Los Angeles artist Layton, the songs reflect the optimism and fun of High School.

Emmy award winning composer Kristopher Carter's score is two handed - part adventure, part horror. Director Gregg BIshop was influenced by the best of John Williams, and Kris' score is a modern tip of the hat to the great adventure films of the 80s and 90s.

The Soundtrack has been released by the filmmakers on Summer Adventure Club Records and is available on iTunes.

Humboldt County Original Motion Picture Soundtrack

The indie gem Humboldt County will be officially released on DVD January 12th with the soundtrack already available on iTunes.

Featuring songs from Earlimart, Radical Face and Junip, along with a gorgeous sparse & melodic score from Composer iZLER, the film's soundtrack reflects the home-made, warm aesthetic of the county of Humboldt . Almost entirely recorded in iZLER's home studio, he was inspired to record the film's end title track "Never Better" after reading the script, before he was officially hired on the film***!

The song "Welcome Home" by Radical Face was recorded in songwriter Ben Cooper's Toolshed studio. The song builds into a vocal and hand-clap led chorus, emoting a sound beyond the range expected of a guy in his home studio. "Turn to the Assassin" is from Jose Gonzales' little known band Junip, and Earlimart's "Happy Alone" are also prominently featured in the film and Soundtrack.

There are also 2 on camera performances by the film's stars. Fairuza Balk takes on "I Want You To Be My Baby", firing her smokey vocals over a red-hot swing/ jazz 4 piece. Frances Conroy (6 Feet Under) does a simple piano backed rendition of "No Other Love But You", which is taken directly from the film.

***On the strength of the Humboldt County soundtrack, iZLER was invited in 2008 to become a Fellow at the Sundance Composers Lab in Utah, and is currently working on a variety of film and record projects.
